When it was built in the 13th century, Werleshausen Castle was significantly smaller than it is today. It only had a bullet top. A free farming family had built this property. It was only after a fire in the middle of the 16th century that the two-story upper section on the remains of the building was expanded with Renaissance style elements.

Werleshausen, a small town on the Werra, lies between Ludwigstein Castle and the Hanstein Castle ruins. Werleshausen Castle from the 13th century is located in the village itself and is located on the Fairy Tale Route.

Ludwigstein, the "Jugendburg", was rediscovered by the Wandervogel, acquired privately and rebuilt as a meeting place. A very interesting destination!

The first castle on the Rusteberg was first mentioned in a document in 1123, but was already destroyed again in 1160. Subsequent buildings and extensions by the archbishops of Mainz were carried out from the 12th century. In 1749 and 1750 the administration built Rusteberg Castle. In connection with this, the demolition of the previously intact castle began in order to use the stones as building material.
