The current building is a Gothic Revival replica from 1894, constructed on the site of the original two-story brick structure from the 14th century. It served as a prison until the 19th century and was severely damaged after a lightning strike in May 2024, which completely destroyed one tower and severely damaged the other.

Right next to Kummerow Castle you will find a small beach, a water hiking rest area, a playground for the kids and a place to stop for refreshments. With a view of Lake Kummerow you can really enjoy yourself here.

Small but nice. Lovingly designed. Here, too, water hikers, cyclists and mobile home owners make for an interesting mix. There is no WiFi, but a few steps away from the site is the Seeblick restaurant with good food. I was also given duct tape to protect the tent against rain, which was a prerequisite for staying.

The orangery appears to have been largely restored (Aug 2024), at least on the outside. In the ensemble in the castle park (next to the church), it is obviously the first building to be restored to its former glory.
