Very well preserved watermill from Bruchhausen.

The water mill in Bruchmühlen near Bruchhausen-Vilsen was first mentioned in a document in 1350 and was in operation until 1996. During the last restoration, the grinding technique was deliberately returned to the original. Here the visitor experiences the "classic" drive of the 120 grist gear via stick wheel and spindle. A bag box should enable the production of finer types of flour in the future. The overshot water wheel, restored in 1990/91, is now running day and night again after a repair on the shaft and the mill pond has enough water to make grinding operations possible, at least in smaller quantities. Water is attractive, and not just for insects

Here on the Eiter is the watermill "Bruchmühlen". It is the so-called Neddermohle (“low mill”) to the monastery mill in Heiligenberg, which is further up the Eiter. The mill can be visited on special days. A small observatory is currently being planned/constructed there, as the owner of the mill is a passionate stargazer. Currently (probably until the end of 2023) he also operates the oldest preserved optical planetarium in the "Alten Gaswerk" in Bruchhausen-Vilsen.
