Bismarck towers are a special type of monument in honour of Bismarck. In Germany, 146 of the original 184 of these towers, built between 1869 and 1934, are still preserved. A large number of them are now used as observation towers. Like this "tiny one": open from the beginning of May to the end of September on weekends and public holidays. From mid-June to mid-August 2011, the Harz Hiking Badge's Wandering Stamp Box was based here ( HWN 201102 ). The Bismarck Tower was inaugurated in 1904 and has had an eventful history: due to its location in the former border area, it was due to be demolished. After being renamed the "Peace Tower", it lay dormant for decades and was inaccessible to the public. Since 1992, it has been open to visitors again after extensive restoration. However, visitors should not be afraid of heights, as the staircase is made of bars. Its location in the middle of the Waldhaus nature reserve invites you to take long walks. A really worth seeing (former) station for (app) stamp hunters! This tip is not intended to compete with the actual highlight of the Bismarck Tower, but is simply intended to help 👻 hunters plan better!
