Friedland Castle, Niederlausitz was built in the 13th century as a moated castle with an almost square floor plan and a double ring of walls. First mentioned in documents in 1336, it was initially pledged to the Order of St. John in 1518, like the town of Friedland and the Lordship of Friedland, to whom it was finally sold in 1533. I immediately noticed this ruin in Lieberose because it looks so romantic. It is the town church, which was built in the 15th century and was badly damaged by bombs in World War II. It has only been propped up and preserved to a certain extent. A local resident told me that there are efforts to put a roof over it to make it a meeting and memorial site. But nothing has happened to date. In my opinion, it can stay as it is, because it looks breathtakingly beautiful anyway.

The castle is in poor condition and cannot be visited.
