Beautiful little castle with moat in Essenrode

The so-called Kavalierhaus is one of the most important buildings in Gifhorn in terms of architectural history. It was built in 1546 for a senior court official. The stone façade in the Renaissance style is unique among Gifhorn's town houses. The renowned castle and fortress builder Michale Clare worked here and was also responsible for the castle as an architect. A portal inside at the passage to a representative room and even the back of the building with its mighty oak framework aggressively showcase status and wealth. The vaulted cellar and the high attic, which are still largely original, also date from the construction period. Here you will find, among other things, an intact freight elevator wheel that was installed around 1700. The listed house was extensively renovated between 2008 and 2010 in accordance with listed building regulations. It is supported by the Kavalierhaus Community Foundation and, in addition to the museum, houses other cultural institutions. The castle is privately owned by the lord of the manor and cannot be visited. Please respect privacy! But you can take a look at the building from the entrance to the manor.

After the castle, the Kavaliershaus is the oldest building in Gifhorn. It is from 1546 and is a listed building.

The castle/estate owned by the Braunschweig banker family Löbbeke is private, but there is also the Ruheforst, a forest cemetery.
