The FriedWald Buxtehude offers natural burials. The FriedWald covers 77 hectares. The tree species include beech, oak, Douglas fir, hornbeam, pine, larch, and blackthorn. A burial mound and a Jewish cemetery, a military cemetery, a place of reflection, and a shelter are also located here. It opened on November 1, 2006. Free events are held in the FriedWald.

The waters of the Este once powered the Flethmühle (Fleth Mill) in the city center of Buxtehude. Below that point, the Fleth was tide-dependent and navigable for barges of up to 100 tons until 1972.
