Birthplace of the poet Friedrich Gottlieb Klopstock. Erected about 1560

The birthplace of the poet Friedrich Gottlieb Klopstock (1724-1803) was built around 1560 below the Quedlinburg castle hill and is one of the numerous architectural monuments of the World Heritage city of Quedlinburg. The city's first museum was established here in 1899. Since then, the Klopstock House has given an impression of the poet's life and work. By expanding poetic language and the art of verse, Klopstock played a key role in shaping the new literary trends of his time. His epic works ("The Messiah") and his poetry (odes, hymns, elegies, songs) impressively mark a turning point in the history of poetry and are seen as a foundation on which classical German literature was able to build and from which later generations of poets received significant inspiration.

In 936, on the intercession of Mathilde, the widow of the , died on the geologically unstable subsoil of the Schlossberg The sandstone Schlossberg belongs to the ridge of the Quedlinburg Saddle. It is part of the stratified rib landscape of the northern Harz foothills natural region and divides it into the Blankenburger and Halberstädter Mulde. During the uplift of the Variscan fault block that forms the Harz Mountains, sedimentary layers of the Harz foreland were raised so much that they broke up. The Lower Cretaceous sandstone layers of the Quedlinburg Schlossberg have an inclination of about 27 degrees in a south-southwest direction. The depositional layers of the sandstone sometimes differ greatly. Coarse-grained, more firmly bound layers alternate with fine-grained, rather silty layers. These layers are overlaid by layers that are very firmly bound by the inclusion of iron and manganese oxides.

The listed two-storey Gothic building is one of the oldest town halls in Central Germany and its core dates back to the beginning of the 14th century. The first documented mention dates back to 1310. The town hall was built at the intersection of two trade routes.

It is one of the numerous architectural monuments in the World Heritage city of Quedlinburg. The first museum was set up here as early as 1899. Since then it has given an impression of the life and work of the poet.
