It was built between 1958 and 1959 as one of the first prestressed concrete bridges in Germany and named after the nearby Café Dornröschen. It is also known for the annual vegetable battle, in which residents of neighboring districts playfully throw old vegetables at each other – a humorous expression of local solidarity and rivalry.

The Hannover-Linden Branch Canal (SKL), also known as the Linden Branch Canal, is an artificial waterway that connects the Mittelland Canal with the port in Hannover-Linden over a distance of 10 km, as well as the Linden Lock. The expansion of Linden Harbor, via whose branch canal the industrial areas of Linden were connected to the Mittelland Canal, began in 1914 and was completed in 1916 with the completion of the branch canal to Hannover-Linden.
