The gorge is approximately 1.5 km long and between three and ten meters wide, only reaching greater widths in a few places. The rock walls reach a height of about 150 m. The Kriopotamos River flows through the gorge, its water level varying throughout the year due to wet winters and dry summers.

The statue of the abduction of Europa is located in the port area of Agios Nikolaos and is based on the ancient story of Europa. The copper statue in Agios Nikolaos was created by the painter, sculptor and producer Nikos Koundouros. It aims to symbolize the ideal of European unity, solidarity and peace. With a height of 4 meters and a weight of about 6 tons, the statue is clearly visible during a walk in the port area of Agios Nikolaos.
