🛑 Important Notice 🛑: The beautiful wooden bridge over the Trave River, which is approximately 6–8 meters wide at this point, is closed (as of February 2026). The exact reason is unclear, but structural damage is suspected. Currently, pedestrians can bypass the closure by climbing over the wooden supports, but crossing by bicycle or with a dog is considerably more difficult.

Opened again in May 2025 after the path was closed in 2018. Pioneers from the Lettow-Vorbeck Barracks built the so-called Soldiers' Bridge in the 1970s. Soldiers used the bridge as a shortcut on their way to the southern part of the city. Today, the bridge is part of the Mönchsweg long-distance hiking trail.

Anyone interested in supporting the Goldmarie am See service team part-time for 20 hours or more is also welcome to apply. The Trave covers a distance of 110 km from Giesselrade to Travemünde. The first half is an inconspicuous stream that is not even suitable for canoeing.
