In 1345, Nikolaus von Bismarck received the Briest and Burgstall estates as a fief from the Margrave of Brandenburg. After a fire in 1839, the damaged part of the building was restored by the family in the Renaissance style. Because it was one of the few mansions that were built during the Thirty Years' War. Zerben Castle, also called Plothosches Schloss, is a manor house in Zerben in Saxony-Anhalt. In 1847 a simple half-timbered house was converted into a palace complex following the characteristics of the Weser Renaissance. The manor owner Wolfgang von Plotho, inspired by the Leitzkau palace complex, had a three-wing ensemble built at great expense between 1874 and 1879.
