We now walk through the valley, the rocks rising up beside us. At the side of the path, we find the mouth of the Tiefen Blühend Glück tunnel. We get a view of the water again, a small path leading directly up to it. We now stand on a rock in the middle of the water. A short distance further, now directly along the water, we walk through this landscape, which nature has shaped here. The loud rush of the Schwarze Pockau river, the mountains around us, rustic and mystical, simply beautiful. We cross the river, the rocks rising before us like a giant. Today we're going hiking through Schwarzwassertal. We start at the hiking car park, near the Katzenstein rock formation. The sky is gray, the wind is stormy, and it's 13 degrees Celsius today. After a short stretch, we enter the forest and follow the Wine Grape Trail. Much of it is still lush green, and some trees are turning color, and the first leaves on the ground herald the arrival of autumn. The mystical atmosphere leads us downhill, and we reach a small settlement, the Schwarzwassertal holiday village. History and Mining Like the entire Ore Mountains, the Schwarzwasser Valley is steeped in a long mining history. Although mining was less dominant here than in other parts of the mountains, traces of it can still be found. The water power of the Schwarzwasser River was also used to power mills and hammer mills. Villages in the Valley Along the Schwarzwasser River lie smaller villages that have retained their original charm, such as Markersbach with its impressive dam or the aforementioned Cranzahl. These villages often offer cozy guesthouses and inns where you can enjoy regional cuisine.
