The cross is approximately 18 meters high and consists of a cross spire, a shaft, and a base. High up on the Pinnerberg, which is easily accessible by the Cochem chairlift, stands the Pinner Cross, a vantage point with a magnificent view of the Moselle Valley. The name goes back to a shepherd who tried to save one of his lost animals from falling and lost his life in the process. The cross was erected in his memory. The Lion Castle The Löwenburg above the half-timbered village of Monreal is a so-called spur castle and was first mentioned in a document in 1229. Count Hermann III von Virneburg is considered to be the builder of the Löwenburg. According to tradition, he is said to have built the complex on the property of his brother Philipp following a division agreement. However, the resulting disputes between the brothers were later resolved and Philip assigned his rights to the region to his brother. Today, large parts of the Löwenburg are still preserved, which give a good impression of how stately the castle once looked. First and foremost, the remains of the 25 meter high keep with its three meter thick walls are visible from afar. The high entrance to the imposing keep faces towards the valley and is therefore strategically located on the side facing away from the enemy. The tower is also freely accessible as a viewing tower.

Very beautiful bridge over the Elzbach in Monreal. The bridge is the middle of three historic stone bridges in the town. On the bridge is the impressive sight from the 15th century, the Lion Monument. The four lions carved in basalt are among the most important monuments of their kind in the Rhineland due to their uniqueness. On the other side of the bridge is the statue of John of Nepomuk, who also gave the bridge its name "John's Bridge". Beautiful!

Great view of the castle and Cochem from the bike path. For one of the most beautiful places, but totally overrun by river cruise ships...

The narrow streets of Monreal, its quaint Holy Trinity Church, the massive Nepomuk Bridge over the clear Elzbach and the ruins of Löwenburg and Philippsburg castles high above the town are a beautiful destination in the eastern Eifel. The red and white half-timbered houses nestle closely together, and the four-gabled house from the 15th century in particular transports walkers into a fairytale past. https://www.eifel.info/a-monreal

Monreal...a picturesque half-timbered village with a small river. There is a lot to see, such as the four-gabled house, the two-arched Johannesbrücke from around 1500 and the wayside cross with the four lion figures from the 16th century. Not to forget the Löwenburg and the Phillippsburg. A super complex, this Löwenburg, with an indescribably great view over Monreal. A huge castle ruin! The many small paths that you can use to climb up the castle are interesting and entertaining.

There are several ways to get to the Pinner Kreuz. Once from the Endert with the cable car/chair lift. For those who like it more sporty, there is a steep path right next to the cable car, sure-footedness is required, but it is also indescribably beautiful. Another path zigzags up near the train station. Also strenuous, but not as steep as the path next to the cable car and also very scenic with a beautiful view of Cochem. You can drive to the game park in Klotten/Cochem (it's also on the hill) and from there it's about a 20-minute walk to the Pinner Kreuz.

The Pinner Cross is at a height of 255 meters, from there you have a wonderful view over Cochem and the Moselle. Easily accessible via a steep but beautiful ascent. You can also go up with the chairlift.
