🏰Eltz Castle is a hilltop castle from the 12th century. It is located at 129 m above sea level in the Elz valley🌊. With its eight residential towers up to 35 meters high, its bay windows, roofs, half-timbering and spires, it is the epitome of a knight's castle for the spontaneous observer.⚔️ It sits majestically in a side valley of the Moselle near Mayen. This imposing sight even adorned the 500 DM note for several decades.

The idyllic Elzbach leads and crosses us to Eltz Castle. A sandbank has formed in the Elzbach below Eltz Castle. A great refreshment in the tropical weather.

A really nice hiking trail that I have personally walked many times!

Instead of visiting Eltz Castle, I preferred to explore the Elzbachtal while my companion wanted to go on a sightseeing tour of the castle (€12 and ban on taking photos). I was amazed by the idyll along the stream! A wonderful peace and quiet and I only met very few people on the way to the destination - Pyrmont Castle. Cooling your feet in the babbling stream is wonderful!! My companion picked me up again at the watermill below Pyrmont Castle. We agree that I made the better choice 😃

In the third Deutsche Mark series of banknotes, the 500 DM banknote bore an image of Eltz Castle on the back. 40 pfennig stamp

The reputation of the castle precedes it - it is worth seeing.
