The Eldena post mill is a Greifswald landmark at the entrance to Eldena.

A beautiful quiet path along the river.

The historic wooden bascule bridge, which connects the two districts of Wieck and Eldena, which are separated by the Ryck, and regulates the passage into the museum harbor, is still operated by hand today with its more than 13-meter-long flaps.

Very close to the Wieck harbor lies the origin of the Hanseatic city of Greifswald: the ruins of the Cistercian monastery Hilda, later Eldena, founded in 1199. The monastery ruins can be reached from the Greifswald museum harbor via a five-kilometer-long towpath, always along the banks of the Ryck.

The Eldena post mill is one of the oldest windmills along the Baltic coast and was first mentioned in documents in 1533. After centuries of use, commercial use was discontinued in 1933.
