A beautiful gem in the Hanseatic city. The greenhouses are all interconnected and house some botanical treasures. The outdoor area is beautifully maintained and invites you to take a short stroll. A visit is definitely worth it! 🌿

It is a late Gothic brick church built on a fieldstone base and has an octagonal chancel. The neo-Gothic west extension, made of granite stone with a square brick tower top, has a shingled spire. The original furnishings include two carved figures (Mary and John).

In 1280, St. Jacobi Church, dedicated to the patron saint of fishermen, was first mentioned by name. The brick church consists of a three-aisled hall and the somewhat narrower square west tower. The originally higher tower had a half-timbered top until a fire in 1955, which was not restored when the tower roof was reconstructed.

The church in Trantow was built around 1400. It is built in the brick Gothic style that is so typical for the region.

St. Jacobi is the third of Greifswald's three Gothic brick churches. It was built in the 13th century when a new town was being built. St. Jacobi's Church was particularly connected with the university: the students of the arts faculty had to attend the services and from 1889 to 1989 the academic services took place here.

It meanders beautifully through hilly landscapes, protecting cyclists from the wind, and the concrete slabs are smoothed with a layer of asphalt. Often beautiful landscape views❣️

The Botanical Garden and Arboretum in Greifswald are maintained by the University of Greifswald. The Botanical Garden is located west of the train station and the historic city center, the Arboretum is about two kilometers southeast of Greifswald center, near Berthold-Beitz-Platz. In 1763, a medicinal plant garden was established between today's main university building and the ramparts. In the course of the 19th century, the university campus in the southern city center was greatly expanded, so that the Botanical Garden became increasingly restricted. According to plans by Julius Münter, a new garden with greenhouses was completed in 1886 on an area of two hectares at the current location of the Botanical Garden in Fettenvorstadt. Due to its size, the newly designed Botanical Garden did not have enough space for trees, so in 1934 a second location for trees, the Arboretum, was founded on Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Straße. Plans to merge the two locations on the arboretum site were not realized, so that to this day both locations exist separately from each other. The historic listed greenhouses from 1885 are located on Münterstrasse. The palm greenhouse with warm and cold house in particular is of particular national importance as an individual monument, also due to its rarity.
