The ringing tower was inaugurated on June 6, 1886. Carl von Gienanth, whose wife donated the bells and who himself had contributed a lot to the building, was greeted at the inauguration ceremony by the guests with volleys and cannon salutes. Since December 19, 1975, the bell tower has been owned by the local community. 1981/82 renovation of the bell tower, electric bell drive since 1982.; synchronous ringing with the church bells of St. Catherine.

Beautiful, well-restored castle ruins with a great view. There is also a place to stop for refreshments right at the castle.

The only moated castle far and wide. Unfortunately the restaurant is closed, the menu removed. As of 8/14/2021. Bench and table available for resting. The moat with its stream is very idyllic.

Falkenstein Castle is the ruin of a medieval hilltop castle (Reichsburg) above the village of the same name Falkenstein on Donnersberg in Rhineland-Palatinate, the highest elevation in the Palatinate. A first mention from 1135 refers to Sigbold von Falkenstein and not to the castle. He belonged to a family that probably belonged to the Imperial Ministry and died out at the beginning of the 13th century. There was probably a family connection with the Lords of Bolanden. In 1233, after a division of the family property, Philipp von Bolanden called himself "von Falkenstein" and thus founded this Bolander line. After the Imperial Chamberlain of Münzenberg died out, Philip I became Imperial Chamberlain and in 1255 he inherited the bailiwick in the Wetterau. Lich later became the center of the domain of Philip I of Falkenstein. In the middle of the 14th century, the Falkensteiners built Neufalkenstein Castle in the Taunus. Around 1500, Uhland I took over the castle rights and further expanded the castle. The descendants of Uhland I acquired Bertholdstein Castle near the town of Fehring in Styria (Austria) and subsequently settled there. In 1647 Falkenstein was besieged, stormed and razed by the French. In 1736, Falkenstein Castle and the County of Falkenstein came to the Imperial House of Habsburg. In 1794 it was destroyed again by the French during the coalition wars. Since then, Falkenstein Castle has been a ruin and was partially restored from 1979 onwards. (Source: Wikipedia) You have a beautiful view from the castle as well as the castle from all sides. It's also nice that you can explore and walk around it completely.

Info also under: http://landkreis-kusel.de/kultur/kunst-im-gruenen.html The Wasserburg Reipoltskirchen is located in the Odenbachtal. It is the best preserved low castle in Rhineland-Palatinate. The art in the countryside and the sculpture trail are at the foot of the castle and can be viewed very nicely from the keep. The pictures are made from all possible materials and living plants.

The moated castle in Reipoltskirchen is a real gem in the Palatinate Bergland - and worth a visit at any time. Reipoltskirchen has the best preserved "moated castle" in the Palatinate. The observation tower is freely accessible all year round. A new film by Bernd Schmitt ("Palatinate Moves"), released in 2018, shows the Reipoltskirchen moated castle with all its facets "https://player.vimeo.com/video/267480373" Built in the last third of the 12th century, the castle complex on the artificial hill enclosed by a curtain wall does not look like a ruin, but rather an inhabited castle thanks to the residential buildings along the curtain wall. They are guarded by a seventeen meter high keep, and a wide ditch in which the water of the Odenbach is dammed protects the romantic idyll. The district of Kusel has polished up the time-honored walls, set up a restaurant and a painting school. The historical substance was preserved in painstaking detail, and the keep was made accessible again. And so that the old walls can come to life, the Wasserburg restaurant was built in the main part of the castle. A painting school has been newly built. Courses for all age groups, laypeople and advanced learners take place here regularly. The idea of the painting school was indirectly provided by a celebrity who was baptized, or perhaps even born, in Reipoltskirchen in 1631 at least: Johann Heinrich Roos, called "Raphael the cattle painter" by contemporaries. With "Art in the Green" and the Sculpture Path, the moated castle is being upgraded as an artistic focus in the Kusel district.

The castle ruin is located in the middle of the village, if you come out of the forest below at the bell tower / cemetery, you have to take a steep road (25%) up to the ruin, which is practically in the middle of the village.

Very pretty castle ruins that were built on a volcanic vent. It is freely accessible, even now during C times. If you come out of the forest below at the bell tower / cemetery, you have a great view of the castle, but then you have to take a steep road up to the ruin (25%), it is practically in the middle of the village. There is also a castle tavern, currently only to-go, of course. In the castle there are also some nice seating areas for a rest.

There is a very beautiful panorama when you come out of the forest. The castle can be seen on the right and a bell tower on the left. If you want to go up to the ruin, you have to go up a steep road (25%), the ruin is practically in the middle of town. Admission is free and the visit was also possible now, during C-times. There is also a "Burgschänke" with (currently) food to go.

The Burgstupp is currently closed due to Covid 19. A little further up is a restaurant that is open. Admission only with a valid Covid test. The view from the castle is really nice. You can also hike a bit in the adjacent forest area. A car parking space is also available.

A wonderfully secluded little village with lots of treasures. Lots of forest, quiet (at least during the week) and pure relaxation.
