The St. Katharinen Church in Bergkirchen is one of the medieval and therefore oldest churches in the regional church. The Romanesque nave was built in the 12th century; other parts of the cruciform hall church were built in the Gothic style in several periods from west to east. In addition to the baptismal font donated by Count Hermann of Holstein-Schaumburg in 1622, the pulpit from 1684 and the organ built in 1716, a sandstone epitaph of the Drost of Sachsenhagen, who died in 1563, adorns the chancel. The church, which can be seen from far away, is located in the north of Schaumburg on the ridge of the Rehburg Mountains. The unique location on the mountain ridge allows for wide views in all directions: to the north to the Steinhuder Meer, to the east and west to the forest-covered hills of the Düdinghäuser Berg and the Rehburg Mountains and to the south far into the Weserbergland. On the other hand, the ridge with its characteristic silhouette can be seen from far away. In the Sachsenhagen collective municipality, there are numerous stork nests in the individual municipalities. In recent years, the number has increased from the original three nests in Auhagen and Hagenburg to around 15 nests in all parts of the municipality. The storks return to their nests between February and March and start breeding in April. At the end of August, the storks fly to the warm south to overwinter. The clattering of the storks serves to greet each other and keep enemies away from the nest. The oldest stork nests are those on the street "Vor den Toren" in Auhagen. Former moated castle, late medieval residential tower with Renaissance additions and extensions, stair tower, two-storey, low, rectangular office building with hipped roof In 1407 the settlement was granted town charter, in 1650, under Hessian rule, and is the smallest town in Lower Saxony. A fire in 1863 that destroyed the entire town was only survived by the town hall and the castle, which still has individual components from the Middle Ages (tower) and the 16th and 17th centuries (caryatid portal).
