Idyllic, narrow path with some rough rocks. Drive slowly! The ruins are situated like a spur castle with fantastic views. A dream for children, but under parental supervision.

It's worth a visit here, an association is trying to maintain it and you can see that. Wonderful castle that I like very much

The ascent pulls a bit in the calves, but it's definitely worth it. Beautiful castle ruins to discover, especially in the evening in the light of the setting sun. There is a viewing platform and even a long table with benches for a rest.

Winterburg Castle from the late 13th century. The castle of the Sponheim family survived a feud with Archbishop Baldwin of Trier and the Thirty Years' War, but not the wars of conquest by Louis XIV against the Palatinate in 1689, but considerable remains remained. In 1839 the mighty tower fell into the valley and damaged the school building, so the ruins were demolished to be safe. Today there are only a few remains of the wall and the office building that was built later has been a school hostel since 1959. The town of Winterburg squeezes into the narrow valley of the Ellerbach and also leads into the valley of the Gebrother Bach and is so narrow that next to the stream and the road there is hardly any space for the houses. The church steps end in the middle of the street, which is only possible because it is actually a bridge over the stream.
