We children were always told that a tunnel led from the lupf (in the Middle Ages) to the carp, but I never found out whether this story was true. The tunnel entrance would probably be under the stairs.

There used to be a castle on the Lupfen. The last remains can be seen nearby - only the ramparts and moats still exist. The castle was first mentioned in 1065 as "Hohenlupfen Castle" and was the family castle of the Counts of Lupfen, who died out in 1562. The castle was destroyed twice by Rottweiler troops - for the first time in the city war in 1377, and for the last time in 1416. Up until 1791, enclosing walls were demonstrably preserved, today only the remains of a ditch and the course of the enclosing wall can be found in the soil pattern. In the place of the lookout tower there probably used to be a keep.

In good weather you can even see the Alps here. A panoramic view gives you the opportunity to discover a lot. This is possible on two floors.

The 22.5 m high Lupfenturm was built by the Swabian Alb Association and is also maintained by them. The top of the wooden observation tower dominates the mixed forest. According to a board in the tower below the platform, it should exceed the 1000 meter mark. The view extends far over the Nordbaar and the Neckar spring area in the north to the most striking Black Forest mountains such as the Feldberg and the Hornisgrinde in the west, in the east to the mountains on the Albtrauf, which are roughly at the same height, such as the Dreifaltigkeitsberg, the Klippeneck and the Lemberg.
