Beautiful area, just lovely to walk along here.

We were out and about here very early, there wasn't that much going on and you could still drive well and enjoy the route. Later, however, the path filled up noticeably, I would not cycle here in the afternoon. On this side, however, there was significantly less going on than on the opposite side.

Beautiful watering hole, with clucking ducks and croaking frogs. Nature still seems content here. A nice place to have a picnic.

Very beautiful natural lake intended as a retreat for any creature... Bathing is prohibited, but there are other bathing opportunities.

It is soothing to let your gaze wander over the lake and let your thoughts flow. Near here there is a stork's nest with brooding storks.

As early as 1937, the idea of damming up a flood-leveling reservoir in the meadows along the road to Ochtersum had been considered. In the 1960s, the idea of not damming up the lake, but digging it up and extracting gravel at the same time, caught on. From the groundbreaking ceremony in January 1966 to the inauguration in 1974, the Hildesheim companies Kanngiesser and Mölders were able to haul over 700,000 cubic meters of gravel. In this way, a stately water surface of almost 100,000 square meters was created on the old Müllerwiese. "With the economic use of the gravel yield, we were able to create this wonderful leisure facility without having to use our taxpayers' money for it," says the then city director Schöne with satisfaction. So it's no wonder that more than 25,000 Hildesheimers followed the invitation of the city administration and enthusiastically took possession of "their" lake on May 26, 1974.
