Further spectacular views of Burghausen's historic center can be enjoyed from the viewing platform, a short walk further upstream (with a kiosk and restrooms). Photographers will find the perfect setting here for their ideal shot: the 6 x 6 m "Castle Window" by local artist Stefan Esterbauer. After a short walk back, the Schmallerl-Steig path leads back down to the "Old Bridge".

The historic town square is one of the most beautiful in Central Europe. Magnificent buildings preserve the flair of centuries past. The town square impresses not only with its picturesque architecture but also with a unique atmosphere that combines tradition and modernity.

The present parish church was built in 1900, after the previous church was closed in 1898 due to dilapidation and – with the exception of the tower – demolished.

The name Sammarei derives from the popular variant of Sancta Maria. The original chapel, dating from before 1619 (a chapel was already mentioned in 1521), has been preserved; Isaak Bader built the present Baroque church around this chapel.

Quiet secondary roads with little traffic

Although the "Schuelmaister" (schoolmaster) is mentioned in the church accounts as early as 1589, when he was given new clothing, it wasn't until the end of the 18th century that a school was firmly established in the village. The building in the center of Beutelsbach, which previously housed the town hall and kindergarten, was around 150 years old. Groundbreaking for the new town hall and kindergarten took place in autumn 2018. The new building was completed in early 2020, and the old town hall and kindergarten were demolished. The new multi-purpose building contains offices, a council chamber, and other versatile spaces. The kindergarten, with its capacity for 40 children, is also integrated into the new building – featuring large, welcoming group rooms – and the outdoor area has been redesigned.
