The church, named after the Finding of the Cross, belongs to the deanery of Zistersdorf in the Archdiocese of Vienna. The church has two and a half Romanesque nave bays and a square choir from the 12th century. The third nave bay, the tower, and the first two bays of the south aisle were built during the reconstruction in 1693 as the old sacristy and St. Barbara's Chapel.

The artist Hermann Nitsch (1938-2022) was one of the Viennese Actionists. In 1998, the palace hosted his 6-Day Play, the artist's 100th performance and the only continuous performance of his life's work. In 2025, after his death, the last three days of the festival (second version) were performed again at Pentecost.

This chapel was donated by the Nordmark student association and consecrated in 1962. Inside there are 3 paintings by Dr. Johann Wind - the middle one shows the Mother of God Mary and Hohenau at her feet, the left one shows the patron saint of fishermen St. Peter and the right one shows the patron saint of hunters St. Hubertus. The front of the shrine is decorated with a mosaic by Traudl Schöner (Vienna), which shows St. Christopher with the baby Jesus on his shoulder and the coat of arms of the student association.
