the Stone Cross is located on the old Rennweg Würzburg-Bamberg. The cross, over 2m high, has pretty trefoil ends and a bulbous base, and is next to a shelter.

Handthal is part of the municipality of Oberschwarzach in the Lower Franconian district of Schweinfurt. Handthal is an excursion destination and gateway for hikers to the Steigerwald Nature Park. The history of Handthal is closely linked to the nearby Stollburg Castle. Handthal originally consisted of several small towns called Winkel, Bramberg and Babental. After the merger, the settlement was called "Hantal", the name refers to a 'Tal am Hagen', a pig farm for fattening acorns in the nearby forests. For a long time, Handthal was an independent community in the Lower Franconian district of Gerolzhofen. On May 1, 1978, it became a district of the market town of Oberschwarzach in the Schweinfurt district.

Beautiful little village with good places to stop for refreshments, camper pitches and access to the connecting path between the Steigerwald center and the treetop path.

Handthal is surrounded to the north, east and south by the largely uninhabited Ebrach Forest. Handthal also has the highest vineyard in Franconia.
