lost place »... The Hammerschloss Röthenbach is a castle in Röthenbach in the Markt Kohlberg (Upper Palatinate) in the Upper Palatinate district of Neustadt an der Waldnaab. The complex is listed as an archaeological monument under file number D-3-6337-0015 in the Bavarian Atlas as "archaeological findings from the Middle Ages and the early modern period in the area of Röthenbach Castle, including traces of previous buildings or older construction phases and the associated iron hammer". In 1843, Franz Johann von Grafenstein (1808–1880) erected the current building for von Grafenstein's castle brewery in Röthenbach, which was located near the castle and was in operation until 1969. Like the castle, the old brewery building is a listed building. (Source: wikipedia.de)

Röthenbach is part of the municipality of Kohlberg and is four kilometers from the main town of Kohlberg with around 130 residents. The historic center is the Hammer Castle with the Röthenbacher Hammerweiher. The castle was built in 1678 by Hans Andreas von Schönstett, with the associated chapel. After the closure of all estate operations at the end of the 1960s, the number of inhabitants also decreased, so the estate apartments were also empty. From this time on, the ravages of decay of the castle and the estate of Röthenbach were bare.

Dießfurt is located in the Haidenaab valley, the district of Pressath is surrounded by numerous ponds and has some sights to offer, e.g. the castle, the gate or the recreational lake. The hammer lock is very beautiful, it is privately owned and can only be viewed from the outside. The castle, built in the 16th century, is a beautiful and popular photo opportunity.
