The short walk to the observation tower is absolutely worthwhile.

After years without any visible progress, a successful exhibition facility was built in 2015 and 2016 in the heart of Schenkenberg on the site of the former telegraph station, a lasting landmark for the entire town. Indispensable for this were the highly dedicated instigator Wolfgang Groch and a large number of selfless volunteers who lent their hands intensively and donated substantial sums of money.

At 69 meters high, the Marienberg towers over the city of Brandenburg an der Havel. The ground elevation can look back on a long and varied history of use. It is believed that after the Slavic uprising in 983, a place of worship was built up here, the so-called Triglav. A Slavic settlement was located here from the 11th to 12th centuries. At that time the Marienberg was still called Harlunger Berg. The place of worship later gave way to the new St. Mary's Church. Nowadays the mountain is a popular recreational area where wine is even grown. Here you can enjoy the view over the city, marvel at the towering Peace Observatory and relax in the lush green of the park. Incidentally, in 2015 the Marienberg was part of the Federal Garden Show.

From the 'summit' you have a great view over the country to one side, if you turn around you can see the folds of the landscape. Both views are worth the climb. Especially since there is a nice council area waiting up here.

Whether you are enthusiastic about history or looking for a vantage point, there is something for everyone here. I really enjoyed the ascent. The park is versatile, also very suitable for families.

The St. Mary's Church on the Marienberg was founded in 1161 on the site of the most important Slavic sanctuary of the god Triglaw. With the Reformation in the Mark Brandenburg, the canons' monastery was dissolved and the church and its property were secularized. This measure began the decline of the building outside the city walls. In 1722, King Friedrich Wilhelm I had the remains of the church demolished. On the 25th anniversary of the founding of the GDR, on October 7, 1974, a new tower was completed to replace the Bismarckwarte. From the 32.50 m high peace tower you can enjoy a wonderful view of the three districts of the cathedral, old town and new town.

At almost 60 meters it is a real mountain in this flat area. Nice view from above.

The Prussian optical telegraph was the longest telegraph line in Europe. The facility is known as the beginning of telecommunications in Germany. The stations were on average about 9.6 km apart, with the maximum distance being 16.0 km and the minimum being 2.1 km.
