The Frauenau drinking water dam in the Bavarian Forest National Park was built from 1974-1984. Fed with the water from the Hirschbach and the little rain, it also serves as a flood catchment basin. The water stored there is mainly used for the public water supply. The almost untouched forest landscape around the reservoir is largely spared human interference, which is precisely why the 5.5 km long circular route with information boards around the drinking water reservoir is a very beautiful, natural hiking trail with wonderful views and peaceful seats. When visiting the dam on the top of the dam, there is a wonderful view over the entire lake and Mount Rachel.
