The blue suspension bridge spans the river near Rotkreuz and offers an exciting crossing with a gentle sway – a popular photo spot and stop for hikers. Directly next to it is a freely accessible observation tower, from which you can enjoy magnificent views of the Iller and the surrounding landscape. Both locations are easily integrated into a circular hike and offer a beautiful combination of nature experience and views.

Steep but easily navigable access on the east side of the Altusried suspension bridge

This great market square with numerous restaurants and sights is located in the middle of Memmingen's old town.

There's nothing new to say about the bridge. But there is something new to say about both routes to the bridge. From Altusried it's a comfortable, gentle downhill ride on a tarmac road. The other side is a bit more challenging. The concrete section is steep and can be slippery when wet, and the uphill section is a forest path whose surface changes every time it rains heavily; the gravel gets washed away. From above, there's a sign pointing downhill advising you to dismount on the steep section. At the concrete section there's a very tight bend that requires some skill and isn't easy to ride. I rode the whole way downhill and on the narrow concrete section I had oncoming traffic. I let them pass because cyclists going uphill have right of way. If it's busy there, I could imagine it being a bit annoying. I would only go uphill if it's dry.

A beautiful attraction for hikers and families on the Iller

The historic market square is the heart of Memmingen's old town. Here you will also find some of the city's most striking buildings, such as the town hall, the tax house or the Grand Guild, a former ball and social hall for major merchants.
