In 1784, the ice floes were 3 to 5 m high on the road at this point and 85 workers had to work for 10 days to make them passable for traffic. A new road was built and a monument was erected for it to the then sovereign.

Very nicely designed city center, there are smaller shops, nice cafes, ice cream parlors, inns and restaurants around the town hall.

Opposite the lions there is a 10m high stone plaque with a Latin inscription on the rock face. It is dedicated to Elector Karl Theodor. Who campaigned for the roads to be built higher. This was otherwise regularly flooded or was impassable in winter due to ice surfaces. Hofkammer Vice President Joseph August von Toerring had the memorial stone installed.
