The approach from Austria (Ettenau) is a bit tricky. It ends in a very steep ramp on a busy federal highway. So leave your bikes at the bottom or take a wide detour and enter the town square via the Laufen Gate. Have fun, visit the Ponlach Graben, the castle with its interesting museum, and the cafés on the town square and in the castle. The walk is worth it.

Apparently this is a way in which villages were built in the area, by building beautiful houses around a large square where (at least a lot of) the life of the village takes place. It definitely worked well here.

Mary Queen of the Rosary is a pilgrimage church in Marienberg near Burghausen. It was built between 1760 and 1764 by the Trostberg market mason Franz Alois Mayr. The Rococo church is often referred to as the pearl of the Salzach Valley.
