Old forest hut in the Mombachtal

The Jakobshütte has its origins as a former mortuary of the old Münklingen cemetery. The Jakobskirche once stood on this site, which was donated in 830 by Count Erlafried von Calw to his then-founded Hirsau monastery. The Jakobskirche was important as a station on a pilgrimage route to St. James, which led from Sinsheim via Mühlacker, Heimsheim, Hirsau and Einsiedeln in Switzerland to the grave of the apostle James in Santiago de Compostela in Spain. The history of the Jakobskirche and its later conversion into the Jakobshütte points to an important religious past and its connection to pilgrimage routes.
