Beautiful and very large medieval castle ruins – clearly visible from afar as a landmark above the town of Nagold. Accessible via various hiking trails through the forest surrounding the Schlossberg. Great views of the Heckengäu, the Black Forest, and, in good weather, even the Swabian Alb. Served on weekends in the summer. Regular events are also held.

Around the year 1000, a castle built on stilts already existed at the current site. In 1613, the medieval valley castle was rebuilt into a Renaissance-style moated castle according to the plans of the Württemberg court architect Heinrich Schickhardt. The small path that crossed the Ammer River via a steel bridge is now permanently closed.

An imposing shield wall protected the building from attacks. The castle is now privately owned and cannot be visited. But it is a beautiful complex even from the outside.

The castle was rebuilt in the Renaissance style in 1613 under the direction of Heinrich Schickhardt. Also worth seeing is the mill right next to it, which now houses a shop and a hall for festive events.

The courtyard is also not open to the public.

After the large trees and bushes have been trimmed, you have a great view over the whole of Nagold. However, you cannot see the Nagold River from up here.

Hornbach (who doesn't think of the "Hornberger Shooting"?). Note the geographic location and the protective wall in front of the castle, which "hailed" the trajectory of the projectiles from the mountain to potential attackers :-)
