The well-preserved castle is an essential part of the historic old town, perched on a hill. And we felt the same way as @Scout Jens: the view from below of the castle and old town had a certain promise and was the most beautiful view.

Menzingen Castle is a Renaissance-era moated castle located in Kraichtal-Menzingen in the Karlsruhe district. Dating back to the Middle Ages, the castle was rebuilt by the Lords of Mentzingen in the 16th century and destroyed during World War II. The castle ruins are privately owned and not open to the public. An information board with a good view of the ruins is located at the rest area outside.

The former care yard of the Maulbronn monastery was converted into a palace after secularisation. The complex is now used by the YMCA and is very well maintained. The vaulted cellar (entrance in the tower) can be visited. To the north you will find a small viewing terrace with a bench. The castle is beautiful and you have a great view of the country from there. A detour by bike is also worthwhile because of the many historic buildings in the old town, which are well described on information boards.

Quote from the owner family von Göler: "Ravensburg Castle, the associated wedding chapel and the marked paths and areas are purely private property. Taking photographs (wedding pictures, photo shoots and the like) on our premises is subject to a fee and is only permitted with our prior written permission - for inquiries about this, please contact us well in advance. In the event of violations, we reserve the right to exercise our house rules accordingly. Outside of our restaurant opening hours (Wednesdays to Sundays), the outer castle courtyard is available for visitors to view. During restaurant opening hours, the inner castle courtyard can also be viewed - after dark there is no access. Please note that a tour of the castle's exterior is not possible or only possible to a limited extent depending on the booking situation/event planning or due to maintenance measures. For safety reasons, it is no longer possible to visit the keep until further notice. The Göler family, the owners, expressly point this out." Unteröwisheim Castle, also known as the Maulbronner Pfleghof or Fronhof, is a former Pfleghof of the Maulbronn Monastery in Unteröwisheim. it is a conference center Today it is a conference center of the YMCA. Already in 1247 a chapel "St. Jakobus”, which stood in the courtyard of the castle until 1826. The Pfleghof was first mentioned in 1347 in a contract of sale between the Margraviate of Baden and the Maulbronn Monastery, in which the monastery acquired the Margravial Fronhof. The Unteröwisheim monastery and its church patronage had already been acquired from Baden a year earlier. The building served as the seat of the caretaker for Unteröwisheim under the rule of the monastery. In 1556 the Pfleghof was taken over by Württemberg as a result of the secularization of the monastery and expanded into a palace. In 1590 it was equipped with prisons and in 1676 with a drawbridge, loopholes and an outwork. In 1689, as a result of the Palatinate War of Succession, the castle was partially burned down by French troops. At the beginning of the 18th century, the buildings were rebuilt under Friedrich August von Württemberg-Neuenstadt, with the main building being renovated again in 1748. As a result of the exchange and epuration agreement between the Kingdom of Württemberg and the Grand Duchy of Baden, the municipality of Unteröwisheim came under Baden in 1806. In the castle, which is now unused, a school and teachers' apartments were housed by the municipality. In 1826, the no longer used chapel in the inner courtyard was demolished. In 1908 the building was renovated and new classrooms were set up in the east corner of the palace. After a fire in 1989, the castle was renovated by the CVJM Baden. [from Wikipedia]
