The grounds of the Amtshof, bordered by an extensive moat, boast a long and interesting history: Originally, a moated castle stood here. After a devastating fire around 1740, it was demolished, and the inner system of ramparts and ditches was leveled. Only the surrounding moat, which widened to form a pond in the west and southwest, survived. Only a short time later, between 1741 and 1744, the present Amtshof was built on this site. Based on the castle's foundations, partly made of bricks and partly of boulders, a large, angled, two-story half-timbered building with a distinctive ridge turret was constructed. The building was extensively restored in 1980/81. A half-timbered west wing was added, so that the Harpstedt Amtshof now appears to the viewer as a three-wing complex. The Amtshof Harpstedt is a historic building, today it houses the town hall of the Harpstedt municipality.

Harpstedt is idyllically situated in the Wildeshauser Geest Nature Park.

Harpstedt, a picturesque spot in the center of the Wildeshauser Geest Nature Park in Lower Saxony, offers a wealth of historical and natural attractions. The community has around 4,682 inhabitants and was first mentioned in documents in 1203. Particularly worth seeing is the historic town center, which was rebuilt at right angles after a devastating fire in 1739. The Harpstedt court, originally a moated castle from the 16th century, now serves as the municipal administration. In front of the court stands the so-called Sun Stone, a prehistoric monument that probably served to worship the sun. Another highlight is the Harpstedt windmill, a three-story gallery windmill from 1871 that is still in operation today and is part of the Lower Saxony Mill Route. The mill was extensively renovated in 2011 and houses a shop where you can buy freshly ground flour.

Groß Ippener station, located in Lower Saxony, is part of the Delmenhorst-Harpstedt Railway (DHE). This railway line, originally opened in 1925, connects several communities in the region and plays an important role in local passenger and freight transport.
