Limburg Cathedral is also called St. George's Cathedral, after its patron saint. Originally a collegiate church, the church only became the cathedral church of the Diocese of Limburg in 1827. This makes the cathedral a special church building. A cathedral normally does not have a baptismal font. But Limburg Cathedral has one, because it used to be a parish church. In addition, Limburg Cathedral is the only German church with seven towers.
