Very beautiful, historical place and district of Höhr-Grenzhausen. Also the official base of the German Olympic table tennis team. Grenzau Castle from the 13th century towers over the town.
The origins of the castle date back to the 10th century.
In 1212 the castle was destroyed and rebuilt in 1215 under the name 'Mons Tabor'
Over time, this became Montabaur.
Grenzau Castle was built around 1210 by Henry I of Isenburg and was first mentioned in documents in 1213. It served to monitor an important trade route and was the center of a small domain in the Westerwald.
