Montabaur Castle, seat of the district office of the Unterwesterwald district until 1945, then the seat of the Montabaur district government, is now owned by the Academy of German Cooperatives, which expanded it as a conference hotel and training center for the Raiffeisen and Volksbanken. It is clearly visible in the middle of the city on the Schlossberg (321 m above sea level).
