Nicolas de Pigage built the garden mosque with its central building, two minarets and prayer corridors between 1779 and 1795. In addition to William Chambers' garden mosque in Kew Gardens in London, the models for this extraordinary garden architecture were primarily designs by Johann Fischer von Erlach. The combination of Western and Oriental architectural language is fascinating. Baroque domes, pointed arch windows and round arch arcades can be found next to minarets, pavilions and crescents. As the last surviving one of its kind from the 18th century, the garden mosque in Schwetzingen is a unique testimony to the interest in the Arab world that prevailed at the time. However, since the building was not built for the practice of a religion, it primarily represents the tolerance of the enlightened builder Carl Theodor. Very impressive buildings that bring you a little closer to other faiths.

Nice place to stop by. Especially because of the beautiful view of the Altrhein from the terrace. However, it is always quite full. At least that's how it was when we came by. Simply a great route that you can drive more often and is always beautiful.

The Zuckerrübensee is the Wagbachniederung nature reserve

The Wagbachniederung nature reserve was created from the sewage ponds of a sugar factory that was shut down in 1995 and is one of the most important bird sanctuaries in Germany. Here you can watch the birds very nicely.
