Vroneck Castle was intended to replace the old Nister Castle and serve to secure the former Cologne-Leipzig trade route, which led over the historic Nister Bridge from Marienstatt. However, the castle was never completed, but what remains of it is more than worth seeing.

The castle, first mentioned in a document in 1255, is enthroned on a rock above the mouth of the Elbbach in the Sieg. It is privately owned, so you can only admire it from the outside. The quarry stone and brick buildings have slate roofs and the upper floors are partially clad in slate. Very impressive and definitely worth seeing.

the old castle ruins of Froneck can be recognized as rock parlors in the rocks - exciting! I can only agree with the previous speaker, please be careful, it is only a narrow path, unsecured on the rocks and the other side is not exactly flat downhill.
