The Markt Castle is also called the Fugger Castle. The spur castle above the Schmutter on the edge of the Lech Valley probably dates back to the 14th century and was first centrally owned by the Rechbergers, then the Pappenheimers. The main wing was built in 1743: above a magnificent portal, lions hold a rocaille cartouche with the coat of arms of Prince-Bishop Joseph, Landgrave of Hesse-Darmstadt. The north wing was built between 1750 and 1752. In the Fronhof, the green area between the cathedral and the episcopal residence, there is the double monument to Leopold and Wolfgang Amadé Mozart, donated by the Augsburg Mozart Community in 1991.
