The big stone-carved monument near the Devil’s Bridge is a memorial to the battles of 1799 in the Schöllenen Gorge and is dedicated to the Russian general Alexander Suvorov along with his fallen soldiers. From Andermatt train station, there is a short hiking trail to the Devil's Bridge and Schöllen Gorge. Simply follow the circular trail sign. You can go through the tunnel on the circular trail without any problems.

At the end of the circular path you will find an old military tunnel where you can walk around the bridge. During the war, they were prepared to blow up the bridge, but wanted to keep the way open by digging a secret tunnel. A lot of work was done in the rock. Russian troops fought under General Alexander Wassiljewitsch Suvorov against Napoleon's soldiers and finally defeated the French.
