The dam wall of the Muldenberg dam is a curved gravity dam made of quarry stone masonry according to the Intze principle. It was built from 1920 to 1925 near Schöneck in the Vogtland region, south of the town of Muldenberg that gave it its name, and put into operation in 1925. It has the longest wall crown of all dam walls in Saxony. However, only 476 m of the 525 m are visible. A control passage in the dam wall was only built in a length of 90 meters during the reconstruction of the wall section destroyed by an explosion in 1945. It also had the function of a drainage tunnel. It was only extended by 200 meters in the 1960s. For high water, the dam has a fixed overflow in the middle of the wall. The pond is the origin of the Rote Mulde, a source stream of the Zwickauer Mulde. There is an old Meilerhütte by the picturesque pond and there is a snack bar nearby. Nice destination.

The Vogtlandsee is a reservoir or a small dam. The pond got its name because of its geographical location. The Vogtlandsee is also called the Great Moorteich. However, a little attention is required, while the signage on/around the raised bog is very good, the circular hiking trail is less well signposted, many roots, wild paths and not barrier-free.

Dam is very beautiful. It's relatively quiet there. Unfortunately, most of the dam circular route does not go directly along the water.

Beautiful little dam. The loop around it is about 2.6 kilometers long. In summer you are allowed to swim at your own risk. A small, inexpensive (1h = € 0.50) parking space is in the immediate vicinity of the dam. There is even a water playground for children at the dam.
