A little below the Plateau you will pass this vantage point of Drachenburg Castle on the way. The view of the (almost kitschy) castle with the Rhine and the Bonn skyline in the background is great. Photos from the small platform almost automatically have postcard quality.

The Remagen Bridge (formerly the Ludendorff Bridge) is a must for those interested in history! There is a beautiful museum in the bridge foundation 👍

The construction of the first church, which was dedicated to St. Martin, the patron saint of the Franks, cannot be precisely determined. It was probably built in the 9th century. Around the year 1110, the Benedictines of Michaelsberg Abbey in Siegburg built a provost's office in Remagen on the initiative and with great support of the population of Remagen. In the 13th century, the relics of St. Apollinaris probably came to the mountain. The earliest documented mention of the saint in Remagen comes from the year 1295. The sarcophagus with the main relic in the crypt of the church dates from the 14th century.

Drachenburg Castle is a castle on the Drachenfels in Koenigswinter. It was built in record time from 1882 to 1884 in the style of historicism (especially neo-early gothic on the exterior and neo-renaissance in the interior) as a representative residence for Stephan von Sarter, who, however, never lived in the castle. After his death, the castle was subjected to several changes in use.

Rhine promenade with lots of bars, quite crowded in summer and on weekends, but nice to sit and watch. Unfortunately, there are still some who believe that relegation only applies to others.

Ludendorff Bridge - a railway bridge in the city of Remagen (Rhineland-Palatinate), 325 meters long, built during World War I to increase the efficiency of transporting soldiers and war materials to the Western Front. The bridge was designed by Karl Wiener. Its name comes from General Erich Ludendorff. During World War II, on March 7, 1945, it was captured by the American 9th Armored Division. It was the only intact bridge across the Rhine in Allied hands, and two attempts by the defenders to blow it up ended in failure. The capture of the bridge was called the "Miracle of Remagen". The Germans tried to destroy the bridge using planes and V2 rockets, but without success. On March 17, 1945, the Ludendorff Bridge collapsed due to damage - 30 American soldiers lost their lives. These events were shown in the 1969 American film "The Bridge At Remagen" directed by John Guillermin. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DWj0EnWyNgk

Beautiful view of Drachenburg Castle and the Rhine Valley with Bonn as a panorama. If the visibility is good, you can see the skyline of Cologne.
