The 🟣 PURPLE PATH 🟣 is a sculpture trail that connects Chemnitz, the 2025 Capital of Culture, with 38 towns and cities in the region. Numerous artists have contributed works of various kinds, telling an unknown story of the region. The exterior is constructed of an artfully handcrafted slate covering. Depending on the incidence of light and the time of day, a saying shimmers from silver-gray to deep black in the dynamic arrangement of the slate tiles: "Bad Mood" is written in Gothic script with a rounded initial "s." The artist Jana Gunstheimer, born in Zwickau in 1974, integrates this saying as a sculpturally translated form of the alienation effect. At once questioning and flirtatious, Gunstheimer's sculpture invites the viewer to take a stand: "Are you in a bad mood?" In her work, the Villa Massimo scholarship recipient addresses, on the one hand, regional cultural heritage, which developed from a collaboration with a Saxon master roofer, as many houses in the Ore Mountains and parts of their facades are covered and clad with slate. These are not only symbols and expressions of a traditional craft with a wealth of knowledge handed down over centuries, but also testify to a strong desire for design, which has been passed down in the past in a vibrant canon of ornaments and symbols in carvings, facade decorations, bobbin lace patterns, and samplers. On the other hand, the artist alludes to the current problem of identity-destroying classism, which has become entrenched in the media as the cliché of the "bad-tempered Saxon." Inspired by everyday sayings and wishes embroidered on linen cloths in the Erzgebirge tradition, Gunstheimer places her sculpture, resembling a curved cloth, in the public space. Decorated with a spell in the tradition of Zwickau weavers, it conveys the positive message: "Stay in a good mood!" (Text: Alexander Ochs / Ulrike Pennewitz)

The wooden bridge crosses the Zwickauer Mulde River directly towards the city center. It was completed in 1900. At that time, the old covered wooden bridge from the mid-17th century had to be demolished.
