The castle is not open to the public. Guided tours are occasionally available on Sundays (€10). Dates are published in the press. Registration is required by phone.

Two palaces weren't enough for Ludwigsburg: "Monrepos," French for "My Peace," was the fitting name for this small but exquisite lakeside palace. It is a true Rococo masterpiece, built under Duke Carl Eugen between 1758 and 1764.

HISTORICAL HERITAGE The first finds indicate that the Lauffen river area was already inhabited in 500 BC. The Romans arrived around 85 AD. A Roman estate (“Villa rustica”) was excavated high above the Neckar in 1978. The well-preserved foundations and remains of heating and bathing facilities provide insights into the Romans’ way of life on an agricultural property almost 2000 years ago. https://www.lauffen.de/website/de/freizeit/geschichte

Good bike path up to the castle. Route through the vineyards, little to no traffic. Steep approach, which is worthwhile. Once at the top, there is a great view. By the way, you can watch great sunsets from there!
