The square was named "Adalbertshöhe" in honor of Count Adalbert of Erbach-Fürstenau. This count made the surrounding land available on a lease basis. The stone table bears the date of the inauguration - May 23, 1897. A wooden observation tower was also built here, but it fell victim to the ravages of time.

On a hilltop (formerly called Frankenberg) north of Amorbach stands the three-aisled basilica, the Gotthard ruins. According to tradition, the Franconian count Ruthard built a castle here in the 8th century, and in 1138 a chapel was added, which is dedicated to St. Godehard of Hildesheim. In 1525, during the Peasants' War, the monastery was reduced to rubble and ashes. It was rebuilt in 1629/1630, but burned down completely in 1714 after being struck by lightning. In order to protect the ruins from further decay, they were given a roof in 1956. To the north, numerous steps lead up the stair tower. The climb is a little arduous, as it is sometimes very dark and the steps are very narrow. However, you are rewarded and have a great view in all directions. A cell phone flashlight was very helpful when going up and down the stair tower.
