The three-aisled pillar basilica standing on this hill has a very eventful history. According to the monastery tradition, the Frankish Gaugraf Ruthard built a castle here in the 8th century, and in 1138 a chapel dedicated to St. Godehard of Hildesheim was added.

From the free on a hilltop Gotthards ruin you have a magnificent view of Amorbach on one side and on Weilbach, if you look in the other direction. If you continue on Weilbach, you will recognize the foothills of the Spessart near Miltenberg. Opposite are the hills and mountains of the Odenwald. But you have to work out this great all-round view ...;)

There is a stunning view of Amorbach and Weilbach from the top of the tower.
It is also interesting that the boundary between the municipalities of Amorbach and Weilbach runs right through the middle of the ruins, so that restoration work is carried out jointly by both towns.
