The Lichtenburg, a castle ruin, was built in the 12th century and expanded and rebuilt several times over the centuries. Destroyed in the Peasants' War in the 16th century, it was then rebuilt, but lost its importance in the 18th century and slowly fell into disrepair. Its keep is well preserved and offers an impressive view of the Rhön, the Grabfeld and the Thuringian Forest.

The castle ruins will be open to the public until the end of May 2024, after which they will be closed for restoration work. The restaurant is already closed (hopefully only temporarily).

The baroque palace is now privately owned and serves as a private clinic.

Well-preserved castle complex near Ostheim. Depending on which route you take up, it is more or less steep uphill. It's definitely worth it for the great view!
