Unsleben Castle is one of the region's most important cultural monuments. It was first mentioned in documents in 1160. Since then, it has had and continues to have an eventful history, shaped by art (the two famous painters Hugo von Habermann, the Elder and the Younger, were well-known) and by different owners who have left their mark on the property over the centuries. The result today is a unique building in which very different styles have been realized. The castle is still inherited family property. In the 16th century, an iron smelter was built on the Holzberg by the von Thüngen noble family. In 1954, the hunting lodge was bought by the current owners, the Meinschäfer family, and converted into a restaurant with guest rooms.
